Barn Large
The Colors of Home by Bradley J. Parrish

The Colors of Home is one of two paintings I executed in the fall of 1991. At the end of the day as I was leaving after studying flowers at my local botanical gardens located near my home in southeastern Wisconsin, I came across this red barn which over looked the gardens and the park. The sun was setting, and only the highest hills and tallest trees were aglow as the days last moments said goodnight. It was beautiful, like so many other times before that this picture played itself out. It is times like this that everything including timing made me stop to capture this special and tranquil moment.

While the title of this piece is self explanatory, it is much more than that, it is everything that conveys a very special moment for me. Having grown up in southeastern Wisconsin and having seen thousands of barns over the years, one can only become very complacent to scenes such as this, often more times than others missing the unique individual beauty each one of these old barns possess and bestows upon you. There are those very special times when the light hits something or someone just the right way, or colors and smells awaken all your senses and it reminds you of the love you have of a special moment in time in your life, it is then that I am truly inspired and capture the true meaning to me of the particular subject. This work is a result of this feeling I speak of, and why I have named the piece "The Colors of Home". If I were to try and tell someone from where I came, I believe I would not need not have to speak a word, rather let this piece answer this question for me.
