THE SENTINEL Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Print Having studied wolves for over a decade Parrish portrays his long time friend Rudolphus (or Rud for short). Described by Parrish as one of the most beautiful wolves he has had the pleasure of studying and painting over the years. Parrish once again is attracted by his majesty. Parrish says "Rud and I connected right from the get go. A premium male specimen of a wolf. Rud to me exemplifies the true spirit of the animal. Ever watchful and wary of certain people, he somehow read me like a book and felt he could trust me. Every time I would come to visit him, I could be quite a distance from him and call to him using a soft but high short yelp and he would call back to me, acknowledging and understanding that he knew it was me. Up close he would intensify his yelps with joy that I was there and want for me to scratch him. Rud is the first wolf in which I realized and understood what the early American Indians knew about the wolf's spirit and held them in such high respect and esteem. I feel that wolves eyes epitomize the phrase the eyes are the window to the soul. Communication between each other is played out in many ways between wolves, however, after a great deal of observation I feel they communicate more through an innate sense through eye contact. Furthermore I was amazed at just how extremely different each individual wolf is. Their personalities, moods and senses are very unique to each wolf, as is the case in humans. The unexplainable non verbal understanding that wolves and humans share is spiritual and unique. For some reason Rud and I connected. More likely because the wolf as in humans recognize instinctively ones make up and are selective to those they feel they can trust and recognize as a friend. This is my second piece of Rud, one which was done many years after Silent Watch. I chose this composition for this piece as I feel it depicts the trust this animal has bestowed to me over the years. Unlike much earlier my piece Silent Watch where Rud looks you right square in the eyes, ever watchful of my every move. Surveying his domain still ever watchful, he allows his attention now to be drawn elsewhere as I have been accepted. He will be forever etched in my mind and spirit. |
